L’économie des moyens est une caractéristique centrale des performances vidéo de Lia Chaia, dans lesquelles l’artiste incarne souvent allégoriquement la ville. Son action dans Minhocao (2006) consiste à avaler les photos d’un ensemble de bâtiments de la ville de São Paulo. En montage inversé, le spectateur a l’impression que l’artiste les recrache les unes après les autres. Au croisement de plusieurs disciplines artistiques, Chaia interroge les bouleversements du paysage urbain et la façon dont la nature y est manipulée.

Economy of means is one of the main characteristics in the video-performances of Lia Chaia, in which the artist often embodies an allegorical figure of the city. Her action in Minhocao consists in swallowing pictures of buildings in the City of São Paulo. As it is shown backwards, the viewer has a feeling that the artist is spiting them out one after another. On the boundaries of several artistic practices, Chaia questions the disruptions in the urban landscape and how nature is manipulated.
